Natural Geography of Mazandaran

Mazandaran is located on the southern coast of the Caspian Sea. It is bordered clockwise by Golestan, Semnan and Tehran provinces. This province also borders Qazvin and Gilan to the west. Mazandaran province is geographically divided into two parts: the coastal plains, and the mountainous areas.

Mazandaran province with area about 23756.4 km² and %1.46 of total area of the country were ranks eighteenth amongst provinces in the area allocation. From the total land in the province, 21.74 percent is farming land, 51.21 percent forest-land 27.05 percent is pasture.

Population and gross domestic product

In 2016, population of Mazandaran province amounted to 3209 thousand, almost 4.05 percent of the total population of the country. From total province population, 39.1 percent is active population

 In 2014, the nominal gross domestic product of Mazandaran was equivalent to 10.83 billion Dollars sharing 3.5 percent of country’s GDP. This showed that the per capita of the province was 3.4 thousand dollars.
